James Honan Jr. is an investment banker and Managing Director of Houlihan Smith & Company. Mr. Honan’s focus is in the Hedge Fund/Asset Management practice, where he is leading a team that delivers M&A Advisory, Transaction Services, Portfolio & Advisor Valuations, and Fairness Opinions. Mr. Honan is also a member of the firm’s Investment Advisory Committee and works closely with the firm’s Structured Finance Group. Mr. Honan has over 20 years of corporate capital markets and investment banking experience with Continental Bank, ABN AMRO and La Salle Bank. Prior to joining Houlihan Smith, Mr. Honan was a Managing Director at LaSalle Bank, where he was responsible for building LaSalle’s Junior Capital Debt Placement capability to include second lien loan origination and distribution. Mr. Honan has extensive experience working with hedge fund and specialty finance investors through the development of the investor base for the distribution of Junior Capital products. Mr. Honan is frequently asked to speak on panels on topics relating to the Hedge Fund industry, Structured Finance products, and valuation of various financial assets.

Mr. Honan began his career as an auditor with Ernst & Young in Portland, Maine. After receiving his MBA, Mr. Honan began his banking career with Continental Illinois National Bank & Trust Company in Chicago and New York.

Mr. Honan earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bentley College and a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Notre Dame Graduate School of Business. Mr. Honan is very active with Notre Dame’s fundraising activities. Mr. Honan holds FINRA Series 7, 63, and 24 securities licenses.
